The presentation of the GARFIELD-AF Score attracted significant attention from the cardiology community at ESC Congress 2016.
The score, presented by Professor Keith A. A. Fox, Duke of Edinburgh Professor of Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh, UK, demonstrated superiority to CHA2DS2-VASc in predicting ischaemic stroke or major bleed in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who have a low risk of stroke.
The integrated risk tool has the potential for incorporation into routine electronic systems, and will now undergo a peer review and testing phase, with journal publication anticipated later this year.
