Freek Verheugt is Professor of Cardiology at the Heart-Lung Centre of the University Medical Centre of Nijmegen and Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis, The Netherlands. Previously, he was Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO, USA and the Free University in Amsterdam, and president of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology.
Professor Verheugt graduated from the University of Amsterdam, and trained in cardiology at the Thoraxcenter of the Erasmus University, Rotterdam. His main interests are pharmacological and interventional treatments of acute coronary syndromes and atrial fibrillation.
Professor Verheugt has published more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, and has more than 14,000 citations. He is an editorial board member of European Heart Journal and an editorial adviser to Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, and Circulation.
